People ask me why I have so many feathers. The reason is I started finding them since I was little. I went on taking some home… as not everything we find is for us to take.

Every single time I find a feather I think about my grandmother, she was the one who introduced me to the world of birds.

Her love for birds brought us to the mountain to find the injured, sick and even dead birds. We would bring them home to care for them until they were ready to go, but some would stay.

She always had a parrot that would sit on her shoulder as she moved around the house. Paco as she called him, was like a “bird dog”. I couldn’t even get close to her if he was on her shoulder, as he would try to hurt anyone that got close or dear to touch him, except for my grandma.

Back home with a little parrot

He was free to roam around like any other member of the house, moving from the front to the back of the house in minutes, he would go on around the neighborhood as well.

When the night was coming and he was not home my grandma would go out to the front of the house and call him like you would call a kid and he came back. He could have left everyday of his life but he stayed.

After Paco, I had the opportunity to meet other birds that came into my life in the same way and I’m thankful for every opportunity.

They have always shown up, sometimes in very subtle ways, enchanting me with their presence or leaving feathers. I was lucky to find a whole wing once.

After a while I realised that as I collected years the feathers started to get longer, the longest one that I found being 40 cm; but I will share that another day 🙂

Some collected feathers

Life has magnificent ways of sending us little messages, they are all hidden in the treasures that we might take for granted.

We walk this earth sometimes in a careless manner, not even realizing that this planet gives us so much if we look and it is always showing us ways to better our lives. We just need to close our eyes and listen…

It is normal to be busy with “our normal” lives, while forgetting to enjoy life. Living and still being curious is a way of allowing meaningful messages to reach us.

One of my feather collection

The world is a mirror that reflects everything back to us, we might not believe it but it happens. Our thoughts and actions shape our reality, even when we think that it sounds absolutely impossible.

As far as I know and from my own experience, nothing is impossible and there are things that our minds cannot comprehend.

When we stop for a while and allow ourselves to be truly present, and listening with all our senses, like children exploring and just being in the moment, without analyzing everything or giving everything a name or an explanation, we attune with the great big mother earth.

Our hearts beating at the same drum, in an intertwined dance like the waves of the sea. Our senses become enhanced as if a hybrid human has taken over, to let us hear the whispers in the wind and feel the beauty with our bare feet.

Tiny feathers in a nest I made

The birds, the feathers and the synchronicities all came together showing little messages hidden along the way, when I was open to bloom. I will continue collecting the feathers that the future has in store for me.

All the feathers were collected with great respect and appreciation 🙂

If you are reading this and wondering if any beautiful feathers would come your way or any other gift from the earth, I want to let you know that It is never too late to see what else is there…

It is always the right time to look for the simple things in life, to open to the world we live, to experience a more open relationship with ourselves and allow more beautiful messages to flow our way.

Much love,

Carolina. 🙏😊
